It's been reported that this November Republicans will be looking for a new Speaker of the House as current Speaker Paul D. Ryan from Wisconsin will be announcing to House Republican collegues today that he is not seeking re-election this coming November. Who will take his place? There are talks that it will be between House Majority leader Kevin McCarthy of California and Republican Steve Scalise of Louisiana.
This retirement move from Ryan could very well spark a wave of retirements among other Republicans who just don't want to face upset or angry voters this coming fall. Ryan himself has not been publically committed to the idea of him running for re-election and now we understand why. While the decision for him to retire has been confirmed by two other republicans who are close to Ryan, he has not publically made the confirmation until earlier today.
