McCain regrets choosing Palin as running mate

Senator John McCain is nearing the end of his life and taking it easy as he deals with the side effects of his battle with brain cancer. With that being said, McCain co-wrote his last book, "The Restless Wave", in which he reflects on the life he lived, the decisions he made, and his political career as a whole. He claims that his one political regret is choosing Senator Sarah Palin as his running instead of his friend and former State Senator, Joe Lieberman. Some of his advisers were concerned about Palin's support for abortion rights dividing the Republicans and really hurt his chances. Knowing what he know now, maybe it did. His direct quote from the book was: “It was sound advice that I could reason for myself,” he writes. “But my gut told me to ignore it and I wish I had.” Additionally, McCain's book was highlighed in a 2 hour HBO documentary where some of these excerpts from the book were revealed. Lieberman said that he was not aware of how McCain felt and said, "it touched me greatly" to hear that.

In addition to McCain's thoughts on regretting Palin, he has been planning his own funeral. As mentioned, he's been battling brain cancer and it looks as if he's nearing the end. One of his direct wishes for his funeral was that President Trump does not and is not allowed to attend. However reports claim that Vice President Mike Pence is okay to attend and will be doing so when that time comes. Other arrangements that have been made is that two presidents have been asked to deliver eulogies, Presidents George W. Bush & Barack Obama. Also in attendence will be his long time friend, Former Vice President Joe Biden, who recently spent 90 minutes visiting him at his Arizona home this past week.

The former Senator McCain is currently 81 years old. He is currently resting at his ranch in Arizona.

His most recent and last book, "The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations" cowritten by Mark Salter and him is available on iBook, Amazon, and in other local book stores. An example of an excerpt from his book is as follows:

“I don’t know how much longer I’ll be here. Maybe I’ll have another five years. Maybe, with the advances in oncology, they’ll find new treatments for my cancer that will extend my life. Maybe I’ll be gone before you read this. My predicament is, well, rather unpredictable. But I’m prepared for either contingency, or at least I’m getting prepared. I have some things I’d like to take care of first, some work that needs finishing, and some people I need to see. And I want to talk to my fellow Americans a little more if I may.”
