Two local dudes from Malden find the Red Sox 2018 Division title banner that fell off a truck on the highway. One of them ran across 3 lanes of traffic to grab what they saw as a wrapped up object on the road that cars were dodging and swerving around. The two local men were driving on the McGrath Highway in Somerville, MA when they came across it and decided to pick it up.
Louie Iacuzzi, one of the men, posted an online video of them unraveling the banner and what they were hoping for in return:
You know, they want to give it back because it's not theirs, "but in reciprocation would like you know to maybe go to a nice playoff game or...looking for something." You can't make this stuff up! This is classic, local Bostonian sports guy sterotype right here and I LOVE IT! The late night TV hosts would be smart to get these guys on their programs asap! This video of the guys is what SNL skits are made of! The best part is that it's real life, not a gag, this is them. Yes, these types of people exist in real life.
What will the Red Sox do though? Give them tickets? Maybe some merch? No. The local men got nothing for the safe return of the Red Sox banner. Iacuzzi was not very happy about it saying, "If I didn't pick it up, a hundred people would have ran it over. I don't want a million dollars. I don't need a million dollars. All I wanted was to maybe bring my family, my friends, to a **** baseball game, maybe meet a player. The flag is back home with the Boston Red Sox."
I think the Sox should have given them maybe not playoff tickets but regular season tickets or have them at a game to throw out the first pitch or something. That would be good publicity and good fun for them. Instead the men got nothing and were even accused of stealing the banner by the owner of the banner company...
I say at least get them on late night! That would be comedy gold!
