Starbucks to start delivery service

The day is finally coming where you don't even need to leave your house to get your favorite cup of coffee delivered right to your door! Starbucks is teaming up with Uber Eats to offer delivery service to their customers. Today, they are kicking off the service in their first city, San Francisco. Their goal is to get your delivery to you in 30 minutes or less. In addition they have created new packaging in order to keep your drinks either hot or cold when they arrive on your doorstep!

Starbucks is offering about 95% of their core menu on their app for delivery. There is a service charge for delivery and that price is $2.49. You might ask, who is going to pay a service charge for the price of a regular cup of coffee elsewhere, but people will and have! They did a trial run of Starbucks delivery in Miami last Fall and it was a huge success. With that being said, Starbucks has decided to proceed forward and start introducing delivery in a variety of cities across the country. The cities that will be offering delivery in the coming weeks are: Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington D.C. International delivery has already been available in China and Japan and will be available in London later this month.

When asked about the delivery service, Starbucks COO Roz Brewer said: "We know we have untapped customer demand for Starbucks Delivers in the U.S. and starting today, we're expanding our best-in-class experience to our customers both in and out of our stores."

We ask our listeners of WRKO if you will partake in Starbucks' delivery service:

I'm definitely on board with the delivery service. VB made a good point off-air that I probably won't use the service for just me with an over $2 service charge but would if it was for a group of us at work or my house. Starbucks is making a smart move because there is a market for it and they're capitalizing on it.
