Baker gets flak for "Build That Wall" Valentine cookie

Edmonds Bakery in Edmonds, Washington out in the North West area of the country is under fire for writing "Build That Wall" on one of their Valentine's Day cookies. Owner, Ken Bellingham and his bakery, is known for their conversation heart cookies every year. The cookies have a variety of sayings on them. Sometimes they have cheeky phrases, cute, loving, friendly, and funny. This "Build That Wall" cookie, was just written on one cookie and the owner said it was intended to be a joke, but one customer, Ana Carrera, saw it, took a picture, and shared it around social media expressing her disappointment with the cookie. Carrera said to local news outlets out there that when saying the phrase "Build That Wall" with hate, it creates a racist tone. She went on to say " It’s really hard to see words like that. My parents were the stories you see on the news of people crossing the border just because they want to have a new start.”

Bellingham, the owner of Edmonds Bakery, did apologize for the cookie and believes people took it out of context. While some on the left like Carrera are offended, plenty were not and even applauded Bellingham for his cookie, wanting to buy one for themself! One patron even told him to "not apologize", while another said " My husband and I would like to purchase the cookies from you and say thank you for your opinion. This country has gotten ridiculous with narrow mindedness.”

This "cookie outrage" is just another example of the left in this country, not understanding the concept of border security as essential to our protection and status as a country. "Build That Wall" was not rooted in racism. It's rooted in protection for it's American people. It's a select few actual racists in this country who took that slogan and acted out inappropriately that have been deemed racist, that give the overall message a negative light in the eyes of the left. It's nothing new that "Make American Great Again" or "Build That Wall" have been poorly interpreted and this is just another example of that. Let's not forget that President Trump did not actually call all Mexicans rapists. He made the comment that "some Mexicans" are rapists and bad people. Let's be honest, that goes for all races. That's not exclusive to Mexicans and people took Trump's words out of context and ran with it.

Overall, I don't think the cookie is a big deal. I'm not offended by it and would not be if I saw it. However I don't think it's entirely appropriate for Valentine's Day. Maybe I'm a traditionalist and want to just see lovely, dovey phrases and things that relate to love. I don't want to see political statements on my cookies. I understand the owner said he meant it to be funny and his cookies do contain cheeky or funny phrases but can't we keep it within the love theme? That's just my take. He can do whatever he wants with his cookies so who am I to tell him what to do. This is America, whatever floats your boat!
