New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday that residents could face up to $500 in fines for not practicing social distancing. If any resident is out and about and approached or asked by an officer to practice social distancing and they do not abide by that, they will be summonses anywhere from $250-$500 for this offense. New York City is dealing with over 32,000 cases and 678 deaths (as of right now). They are being plagued by COVID-19 the hardest out of any U.S. city.
Mayor de-Blasio said this specifically when it comes to fining people over social distancing: "You’ve been warned and warned and warned again. If anyone doesn’t listen, then they deserve a fine at this point.”
