Yesterday, the Girl Scouts of America put out a tweet congratulating Judge Amy Coney Barrett on her appointment to the Supreme Court. Their tweet specifically read: "Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the 5th woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789." This tweet was featured with 5 pictures of all the woman who have been appointed to the Supreme Court throughout history: Sandra Day O'Connor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayer, Elena Kagan, and now Amy Coney Barrett. This congratulatory tweet was met with a lot of criticism so the Girl Scouts made the decision to delete the tweet.
Judge Amy Coney Barrett has been a controversial individual for some for her views on pro life as well as gay marriage. Many liberals believe Judge Amy Coney Barrett is a threat to the Court as they suspect she has it out to overturn Roe Vs. Wade and Gay Marriage rights. With that being said, critical tweets ensued after the initial Girl Scouts Tweet congratulating Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Some tweets included:
After all of this criticism over their congratulatory tweet, The Girl Scouts deleted their initial tweet. This was their response:
What do you make of this? Do you think it's weak of The Girl Scouts to cave like this and delete their tweet? I do. I think it's ridiculous and sad that they are met with some criticism and decide to pull the tweet. While The Girl Scouts say the: "Girl Scouts of the USA is a nonpolitical, nonpartisan organization. We are neither red nor blue, but Girl Scout GREEN. We are here to lift up girls and women.", this is a historic moment that the 5th women has been confirmed on the Court. That's not showing bias, it's highlighting history. By them removing the tweet is actually doing more damage than the initial perceived controversial tweet because it appears they are in agreement with the critical mob that says they are acting inappropriate, instead of standing their ground and going off the notion that they are highlighting history not taking a political stance. The Girls Scouts can still remain non biased while congratulating someone for a historical achievement. The Girl Scouts are about lifting woman up regardless of as they said "red or blue" and in this case they appeared to contradict themselves because apparently they are not about lifting up woman who are more "red". Unbelievable. Stick to your guns, Girl Scouts and stand your ground about why you tweeted this in the first place and let the critics bitch and complain all they want. You know your values, stand on it.
