McConnell blocks Senate vote on $2K COVID relief payments

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocks a proposed vote in the Senate on an approved House bill that would increase COVID relief payouts to $2,000. This comes today on the House floor when Senator Bernie Sanders tried introducing the motion and Sen. McConnell proceeded to object. The House voted 275-134 to increase the COVID relief payouts up from $600.

In a rare moment, President Trump, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Democrats, and Republicans alike are in favor of this increase and yet Sen. McConnell has his reservations about this increase in payouts...

Why is Sen. Mitch McConnell blocking the Senate vote? One argument is that the country cannot afford it. Democratic critics of McConnell such as Sen. Adam Schiff say: "The same Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans that thought we had plenty of money for a $2.2 trillion tax cut for wealthy families or large corporations now seem to say we can't afford to help these families in need."

This block by McConnell has lit Twitter on fire with harsh criticism of his decision. For many, it does not make sense when we're at a time in our history where small businesses are shuttering their doors, we have nationwide mass financial layoffs, and for many they are struggling to put food on the table. When President Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and even Sen. Bernie Sanders are all in agree, doesn't that tell you something? I personally am against this block by McConnell. I think there are many Americans who have waited long enough for some financial relief during this pandemic and to cheap out on it is a disgrace. Can we really financially not afford it? I think we can't afford to see our country's citizens plummet further into the ground. I'm not a financial or political expert so I need McConnell or other opponents of the COVID increased payments to thoroughly explain this to all of us and give us a legitimate good reason because for most of us average American citizens, this makes no sense what so ever...
