Democrats have crossed the Rubicon. They are now openly targeting conservative Supreme Court justices in the hope of intimidating them to switch their votes and not overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.
A far-left group, “Ruth Sent Us,” with ties to the Democratic Party, has published online (known as doxing) the addresses of the six conservative justices on the high court—Chief Justice John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett—and directed liberal activists to protest and harass them in front of their homes. The group even provided Internet maps with specific directions to the justices’ private residences—3 in Virginia and 3 in Maryland.
The goal: To bully and frighten the justices to reverse their support for overturning the 1973 Roe decision, which legalized abortion across America. This naked intimidation campaign is in reaction to Monday’s leak to the liberal media of a draft majority opinion written by Alito regarding the Dobbs case. The opinion blasts the Roe decision, and calls for the issue of abortion to be returned to the states and elected representatives—as it should be in a constitutional democracy and self-governing republic.
Whatever one thinks of abortion rights (and I am staunchly pro-life), Roe was a horrible constitutional decision. It manufactured the “right” to an abortion out of whole cloth, inventing a right that doesn’t exist in the Constitution. The draft opinion’s logic and reasoning is inexorable: abortion must be settled by the voters, through their elected representatives, at the ballot box—not by nine unaccountable jurists wearing black robes.
In fact, should Roe fall, none of the states—not one—will likely ban abortion. The Mississippi law, for example, which triggered the Dobbs opinion by Alito, allows for abortion up to the first 15 weeks (nearly 4 months) of a woman’s pregnancy. Meanwhile, blue states, such as California, New York and Massachusetts (among many others) will have legal abortion for the entire 9-month period of a woman’s pregnancy all the way up to birth.
Hence, the claims by President Biden and top Democrats, like Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren that reversing Roe will not only lead to a national ban on abortion, but to “millions of women dying” due to back-alley abortions are a monstrous lie. It is cynical demagoguery designed to whip up the Democratic base into mass hysteria in a desperate attempt to salvage the midterm elections.
In fact, most European countries—including secular progressive welfare states (take Sweden)—ban abortion after 4 or 5 months during a woman’s pregnancy (in Ireland abortion is permitted only up to 12 weeks or 3 months). The notion that placing restrictions and limits on abortion will lead to millions of women perishing or as Biden ludicrously claimed, that “LGBTQ kids” will be banned from “public classrooms” or that interracial marriage will be made illegal is pernicious nonsense. It’s what Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels called the “Big Lie.”
The danger is that radical Democrats have so inflamed liberal opinion that they are fomenting political violence against the Supreme Court. Justice Alito has already had to cancel a public appearance for fear of being physically attacked.
We live in an extremist ideological age, where Black Lives Matter and Antifa thugs have been allowed to loot, riot and burn with near impunity. The progressive left is now setting its sights on Supreme Court justices. They are engaging in a legal/judicial insurrection. My great fear is that some abortion fanatic may attempt to assassinate a doxed conservative justice. If violence should be unleashed—and I pray this doesn’t happen—then the blame lies squarely on Biden and his minions. They will have blood on their hands.
