BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- As the Bruins continue flying high--they're very nearly at the top of the NHL standings--WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Adam Kaufman checked in with Head Coach Bruce Cassidy for an exclusive, wide-ranging interview about the team's surge and what their goals are going forward.

You can listen to the full interview below.

Bruins Head Coach Bruce Cassidy on the secret to the Bruins' success:

"First and foremost, we've got talent, we've got good players and high character to go with that talent, so that makes my job easier. I think they've bought in to what we've tried to change with the team, I think that's where the staff deserves some credit. We've changed the style of play without losing our identity as a hard-to-play-against, solid defensive team."

On dealing with injuries:

"Everyone's contributing. Bodies have changed. We are much healthier now than we were at the start of the year, but we've still had guys in and out of the lineup for whatever reason. You work from the back out."

On whether Patrice Bergeron belongs in the MVP conversation:

"He's a power play guy, he's a penalty go guy, face off, matchup, offense. He's played in every situation, so obviously when he's out it's a big loss, so yes, I think he should be in there ... at the end of the day, I don't think he's focused on that at all, I think he just wants to play and win and help his team, that's the beauty of Patrice."

On the team's goals for the trade deadline:

"There's always the conversation about, does it affect chemistry if you bring somebody in, and then, if you make a trade that doesn't take anyone off your roster, et cetera, et cetera. All those discussions take place more up on the fourth floor here. We're on the second floor here, on ice worrying about our next game and how we can get better defensively, how we can improve our starts."
