Lowell High School To Re-Open After Gas Leak

LOWELL, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Classes will resume at Lowell High School on Monday after spring break. But the school’s heating system will be turned off as the city now plans to replace the aging system.

The school was closed for four days following a report of a gas leak at the field house, one of 4 buildings on campus.

But after years of putting band aids on the 40 year old heating system, city officials say a complete overhaul is necessary.

“ We have hit the end of the road, and what we can obvously expext from this very old heating system  “

Lowell City Manager Eileen Donahue said The new heating system will cost about $255,000 dollars.

Donahue also says the city desperately needs a new high school.
