YARMOUTH (24/7 NewsSource/WBZ-AM)  --  The public is being warned about a phone scam regarding the recent death of Yarmouth police officer Sean Gannon.

Officer Gannon was shot and killed while helping serve a warrant in Barnstable earlier this month.

Authorities say scam callers claim they are raising money for a Sean Gannon Fund.

"Barnstable Police has received several calls stating they are raising money for the 'Sean Gannon Fund,'" the department wrote in a Facebook post Saturday. "This is a SCAM. The phone numbers used so far are: 508-418-0669, 508-418-0431, and 508-418-0979. There are NO ACTIVE PHONE SOLICITATIONS being conducted to raise money."

The Yarmouth Police Foundation is accepting contributions, in person or online.

The department also said on their Facebook page that this GoFundMe page was legitimate.
