BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — The holiday season is about to begin, and with the season comes an increase in drunk driving. WBZ NewsRadio1030’s Tina Gao spoke with Uber’s general manager for New England, Persis Elavia, about the increase.
“More than 1,000 people die nationally between Thanksgiving and New Year’s due to impaired driving crashes. And the night before Thanksgiving is the deadliest night of the holiday season,” Elavia said.
Uber is working with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to ensure residents and visitors in Boston have a reliable ride home. Uber is offering free rides Thanksgiving eve up to $15.
Riders can use the promo code “SafeRideMA18” starting at 9 p.m. Nov. 21 to 6 a.m. Nov. 22.
“There are many ways to avoid drinking and driving this Thanksgiving eve, whether riders take advantage of our free trip home or another service,” Elavia said. “We just hope that people make safe decisions while they are out.”
