Funeral For Worcester Firefighter Christopher Roy Held Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ-AM) — The funeral for firefighter Christopher Roy took place at St. John’s Catholic Church in Worcester Saturday morning. Roy died last weekend fighting a house fire on Lowell Street in Worcester.

Roy was trapped inside the building with another firefighter before being freed. He suffered from fatal injuries. Roy served in the Worcester Fire Department for over two years before the incident. He leaves behind 8-year-old daughter Ava.

“To Ava — you were your father’s world. He moved heaven and earth to give you the best life possible that you deserve. He is so proud of you, and will continue to be. He will always be in your life and in your heart, watching over you from heaven,” a colleague of Roy said in a eulogy Saturday.

Thousands of firefighters were in attendance at the service. Members of the Worcester Fire Department escorted Roy's body to St. John’s Church on Temple Street before the funeral. Ladder 4, where Roy was assigned, was adorned with flowers. Bells were rung to symbolize Roy's final call.

"Christopher Roy is at peace after a Sunday of deception and treachery," Worcester Fire Department chaplain Rev. Walter Riley said.
