EASTON, Mass. (WBZ-AM) — A police investigation is underway in Easton after officers shot a man who was involved in a high-speed chase.

The incident began around 2 p.m. Sunday, when Easton Police responded to calls about a suspect knocking on a woman's door, and a vehicle in her driveway on Bay Road. When officers arrived, the man got into a car and fled the area--driving at high speeds until he crashed into another vehicle near Allen Road.

Police say the suspect then emerged from the car drawing a gun and pointing it at them. Officers fired at him, and he was struck at least once.

Witnesses described the scene.

“He pulled gun out of his belt," the witness said. "She said, ‘Uh oh,’ and ran in the house and got her kids and they all went to the back of the house. Within seconds, the cop cars started pulling up. He opened fire on the police and the police shot back."

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Following standard procedure, the two officers involved are now on paid leave while an investigation is underway. No officers were hurt.

Witness Stephen Lippert said his truck and camper were struck by gunfire, and his neighbor's house has bullet holes in it.

"We noticed that there were bullet holes all over her house," he said. "When we went inside, there was a bullet hole that went right through the middle of her dining room into the adjacent wall."
