NEW YORK CITY (WBZ-AM) -- Celebrities and fans alike are coming together through social media to come to the aid of comedian Pete Davidson.

Police in New York made a welfare check on the 'SNL' star after a concerning post he made on Instagram Saturday, saying in part that he didn't want to be on this Earth anymore. Hours later, the comedian made a brief appearance on 'SNL.'

Davidson has been public about his mental health struggles, and it's been a difficult year--he and fiancee Ariana Grande went through a highly-publicized break-up, and Davidson recently came under scrutiny for an SNL skit in which he poked fun at Congressman Dan Crenshaw of Texas, who wears an eyepatch. The veteran lost his eye in combat. Davidson later apologized.

The comedian is due to perform in Boston on New Year's Eve to two sold-out crowds.
