PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Plymouth Police continue to investigate after shots were fired at the Algonquin Heights housing complex Wednesday morning.

Tensions were high as authorities fanned out across the town, searching for the 6-8 suspects believed to have been involved.

Plymouth Police Chief Michael Botieri said at least two of those suspects were known to police. He said the shooting between two groups of individuals did not appear to be random, and there did not appear to be any danger to the public.

Calls reporting an active shooter in the complex's parking lot came in just before 10 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Police told residents at the complex to stay in their homes, and blocked those outside from entering.

One person who was present at the shooting was briefly taken into custody, but was released after police determined he hadn't actually been involved in firing a weapon.

Plymouth Police said another of the shooting suspects was seen leaving a nearby Walgreens, where officers later found a handgun and a piece of clothing.

Chief Botieri said the investigation remains active and open. He asked the public to report anything suspicious, and to contact the department's detective division at 508-830-4218 ext. 364 with any information.

Plymouth Public School issued "stay in place" orders for the following schools: Plymouth North High School, Plymouth Community Intermediate, Plymouth Early Childhood Center, Hedge Elementary, Cold Spring Elementary, Nathaniel Morton Elementary, and West Elementary.

State Police said they deployed multiple units, including a K9 and their Air Wing, to assist Plymouth Police. FBI, ATF, and metro SWAT units also responded.
