Peloton Ad, Featuring 'Grace In Boston,' Faces Public Backlash

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Peloton commercial that some are calling offensive is getting a lot of buzz online.

The commercial features “Grace in Boston,” whose husband got her the Peloton bike for Christmas. She appears to be skinny and rich, which some are criticizing.

“In those kind of commercials I want to see someone who looks more like me, more human, someone who wants to have a transformation. Not someone who is already there,” Boston resident Emma said.

Some social media users have been calling the commercial sexist, calling the ad out for depicting a woman who already was thin.

The old adage 'even bad publicity is good publicity' might not apply here. Peloton stock dropped about 10 percent after the commercial aired.

Peloton told the Boston Globe that they are "disappointed in how some have misinterpreted" the ad, and that it was meant to "celebrate that fitness and wellness journey."

"While we're disappointed in how some have misinterpreted this commercial, we are encouraged by — and grateful for — the outpouring of support we've received from those who understand what we were trying to communicate," Peloton told the Globe.
