Air Quality Alert Extended In Parts Of Massachusetts Until Midnight Tonight

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has extended an Air Quality Alert in parts of of the state until midnight Tuesday.

The alert for Unhealthy Air for Sensitive Groups is for northern Worcester County, as well as northwest and central Middlesex and Essex Counties.

Massachusetts saw a thick haze Monday afternoon. Officials believe it was smoke caused by wildfires in western United States.

On Monday, multiple fire departments across the state had received reports of smoke, but upon investigation, they were unable to locate a nearby fire. It is believe that smoke came from the west.
