WIMBLEDON, England (WBZ NewsRadio) — Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in a thrilling fifth-set tiebreaker, becoming the first man in 71 years to win Wimbledon after facing match points in the final.
"This always has been the tournament for me," Djokovic told reporters after the match. "It's extra-special sharing it with my son in the crowd."
After five tense hours, Djokovic notched his fifth at Wimbledon and 16th Grand Slam trophy. The champion now sits behind only Federer (20) in total Grand Slams, and Rafael Nadal (18).
Federer has won Wimbledon eight times since 2003, but the 37-year-old has now lost all three of his Wimbledon finals against Djokovic. "At 37, it's not over yet!" The Swiss player said after the loss.
Djokovic is 4-0 against Federer in five-set matches.
