BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A few weeks before Major League Baseball is expected to resume without fans in the stadiums, multiple members of the Boston Red Sox have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Boston Globe, Red Sox manager Ron Reonicke said "some" team members were missing from the start of summer camp training at Fenway Park on Friday morning.
“We didn’t have everybody come in,” Roenicke said. “We do have some positive tests. I won’t be able to give you names on these players.”
Roenicke said all players and staff are being tested for coronavirus regularly, and if somebody tests positive during the training camp, he said he will let reporters know.
As the Globe reports, Eduardo Rodriguez was not at Fenway for the first day of training camp. Roenicke said Rodriguez is still at home in Florida, after he was exposed to a person who was sick.
“He wanted to make sure he was fine,” Roenicke said. “We have tested him. We don’t have the results back yet. When we get those results, obviously you’ll know. Eddie was fine with me telling you that.”
