BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — After hundreds of protestors marched in Roxbury Friday night calling for police reform and justice for Breonna Taylor, organizers have announced three separate demonstrations for Taylor planned for Saturday night in Boston.
More than 800 people have signed up to attend a protest starting at 3 p.m. at the Jim Rice Field at Ramsey Park on Washington Street in the South End. Organizers said they are demanding Breonna Taylor's case be reopened, and that "all officers and officials responsible in the chain of command be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Another 500 people were expected for a demonstration at Roxbury's Nubian Square from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Organizers said they would "rise in solidarity with the family of Breonna Taylor, and the people rising up in the streets of Louisville denouncing the grand jury’s non-indictment of the officers who murdered Breonna Taylor in her sleep and calling for real justice and accountability."
Hundreds more are expected to gather for a march and rally called "We Are The Change," which is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at the Parkman Bandstand on the Boston Common. Organizers are planning to march to the State House and City Hall.
Demonstrators also took part in the fourth weekend of "Bike For Black Lives" on Saturday morning. At around 11:30 a.m., hundreds of cyclists joined together in Franklin Park for a 14-mile bicycle rally in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Earlier this week, one of the officers involved in Taylor's death, Brett Hankison, was indicted on three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for firing shots into Taylor's apartment in March. The other two officers, Sgt. John Mattingly and Det. Myles Cosgrove, were not charged. None of the officers involved were charged directly for Taylor's death.
