High School History Lesson Compares President Trump To Nazis, Communists

A recent history lesson in an Advanced Placement class at Loch Raven High School in Towson, Maryland, is being described as "a piece of propaganda" by local politicians. While students were learning about World Wars, their teacher showed a slide featuring a photo of President Donald Trump above pictures of a swastika and the Communist hammer, sickle, and star.

The photo of President Trump had the words "Wants to round up a group of people and build a giant wall," written above him. The words "Been there. Done That" were written underneath the other two images. On the left side of the slide, the teacher wrote, "oh, THAT is why it sounds so familiar!"

Republicans from the Baltimore County Delegation blasted the lesson during a meeting in Annapolis.

"It is horrific. It is educational malfeasance," Del. Kathy Szeliga said.

Baltimore County Councilman Wade Kach called the lesson "a piece of propaganda" and said, "it is inappropriate in a high school to have something like that that is so controversial."

"I think to in any way try to draw a comparison to the president and the communists, or the Nazis" isn't right, he said.

School officials said they did not provide the slide to the teacher, but said the matter will be "appropriately addressed by the school administration."

"The topics being discussed in the class included World Wars and the attempts by some leaders throughout history to limit or prevent migration into certain countries. In isolation and out of context with the lesson, the image could be misunderstood," the school district said in a statement.
