RINO Treachery

Kevin McCarthy must not be the next House speaker

By Jeffrey T. Kuhner

Republicans are poised for a massive victory in the November midterms. Joe Biden’s poll numbers are cratering. The economy is contracting. Inflation is soaring. Our border crisis is deepening. Violent crime in major cities is exploding. And, under Biden’s watch, U.S. foreign policy—Afghanistan, Ukraine—has been disastrous.

Yet, conservatives need to ask themselves a seminal question: If (as it now appears likely) the GOP sweeps back into power and regains control of Congress, who should be its leader? As it stands, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is expected to take the gavel from Nancy Pelosi and lead the resurgent Republicans. But is McCarthy worthy to be the next House speaker – the third in line in the presidential succession and the most powerful individual in Congress?

For conservatives, the answer is simple – and obvious: no.

Nothing makes that clearer than the shocking revelations of the past week. Several reporters from the New York Times wrote that McCarthy on Jan. 10, 2021, several days after the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill, spoke on the phone with rabid Trump-hater (and warmonger) Liz Cheney and other top Republicans. According to the Times reporters, McCarthy told them that Trump was responsible for the events of Jan. 6 and that he should resign from office immediately.

McCarthy didn’t just deny the story. He claimed it was “manufactured” – the conversation allegedly never happened and he never said he believed Trump should resign. McCarthy lied. The audio recording of the phone call was released, definitively proving that the minority leader wanted and called for Trump to be ousted.

McCarthy is a liar and a backstabber. In public, he pretends to be an America First conservative and staunch Trump ally, while in private he was scheming with Cheney and other RINOs to drive the former president from power and destroy his political career.

But what is more troubling is McCarthy’s odious support for censorship and cancel culture – the very hallmarks of the radical left. During that conversation, he revealed he agreed with Twitter’s decision to ban Trump’s account. Moreover, McCarthy then said he wanted the social media accounts of other pro-Trump House Republicans to be shut down by Big Tech oligarchs as well. In other words, McCarthy wanted to censor and silence any members of his own caucus, such as Reps. Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert and Louie Gohmert (to name just a few), who dared to raise the issues of voter fraud, election corruption and the dangers of universal mail-in voting.

Instead of being a champion of Trump’s populist agenda, McCarthy in private has shown himself to be its mortal enemy. Like most GOP elites, McCarthy loathes the actual voters of the Republican Party. He is a RINO globalist beholden to the donor class, a Chamber of Commerce Republican who puts the interests of the establishment first – a creature of the very swamp that Trump vowed (and failed) to drain.

The modern Democratic Party and the woke left are defined by creeping authoritarianism, intolerance and hatred for Donald Trump. Their modus operandi has been to use Big Tech, Big Business, Big Media and Big Government to silence and censor dissent, especially voices on the populist right. RINOs, such as McCarthy (as well as Cheney, Mitt Romney and Adam Kinzinger), are part of the corrupt ruling class that must be defeated if our constitutional republic is to be restored and saved.

McCarthy – like all establishment Republicans – is controlled opposition. He pretends to oppose the Democrats and Biden’s far-left agenda. In reality, he will cut deals with them and protect the interests and power of Washington’s political class. If he is willing, even eager, to censor and throw under the bus pro-Trump members of his own caucus, then why should conservative patriots trust him?

We shouldn’t. This is why we need to get organized now – way before the midterm elections – to choose and rally around an alternative candidate to be the next House speaker. My pick would be Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio. But, whoever it is, almost anyone will be better than McCarthy.
