Study says mouthwash like Listerine kills COVID in 30 the lab

A new study out of the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff says that in their lab they tested out mouthwash brands including Listerine and Dentyl against symptoms/a make shift virus that mimicked the conditions of a person’s naso/oropharynx passage to which they were met with positive results. Their findings report that "mouthwashes containing at least 0.07 per cent cetypyridinium chloride (CPC) showed “promising signs” of being able to combat the virus." Now this study was done in a lab, NOT on real life COVID patients so it is not a proven fact that mouthwash has reduced COVID-19 levels in real life people. This is just a study that shows promise for the potential future usage of mouthwash or the components of it to reduce COVID levels/symptoms in people.

One of the doctors who worked on the study, Dr. Thomas, said this regarding the study: "It is important to point out the study won’t give us any direct evidence on viral transmission between patients, that would require a different type of study on a much larger scale.

The ongoing clinical study will, however, show us how long any effects last, following a single administration of the mouthwash in patients with COVID-19."

This is a 12 week trial that will aims to help determine the effectiveness of mouthwash in reducing the COVID-19 viral load in patients' saliva. It will conclude in the beginning of 2021.

With this being said, I think people will now go out and stock pile up on mouthwash such as Listerine just like they did for toilet paper. My prediction is mouthwash will be difficult to find on the shelves after this latest announcement. People get carried away with any mention of a potential combatant for COVID-19; look what happened with disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, and the like. I suppose I don't blame them but can we wait for the trial to be completed on actual people to start going out in droves for the Listerine? I honestly never understood the stock piling of products. Relax. People act like they'll never get out of their house again and on top of that they overindulge in products they stock up on like the disinfectant wipes resulting in continued high demand. The same thing happens in New England every time there is a Nor'easter coming in. You can't go 2 weeks without toilet paper or mouth wash? I get if you have a larger family but get what you need for those 2 weeks not for 2 months! Maybe I'm alone in my thinking...what say you?
