Death toll rises in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian

Bahamas Relief Effort Begins in Wake of Dorian Destruction

The death toll from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas is rising. The country's health minister has confirmed that at least 20 people are dead. Dorian stalled out over the islands as a category five hurricane and hardly moved for almost two days. It left behind widespread destruction on the islands, with homes and buildings completely demolished. There's also significant flooding. Most of the dead were found on Abaco Island, while several were on Grand Bahama. The death toll could still rise and recovery efforts are still ongoing.

A massive rescue effort is underway after Hurricane Dorian spent more than a day inching over the Bahamas, killing at least seven as entire communities were flattened, roads washed out and hospitals and airports swamped by several feet of water, according to published reports.
