House Impeachment Managers Unhappy About Proposed Rules-Procedures

US-POLITICS-IMPEACHMENT

House managers are unhappy about proposed rules and procedures for the Senate impeachment trial.

Talking with reporters at the Capitol, California Democrat Adam Schiff said the proposal by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is not a prescription for a fair trial. He said McConnell is pushing a "process for a rigged trial." Schiff made another plea for the summoning of witnesses and subpoenas for documents that have been blocked by the White House. Schiff chairs the House Intelligence Committee.

Schiff argued that McConnell's proposal is not a model that reflects the Clinton impeachment trial in the late 1990s.  New York Democrat Jerry Nadler said that McConnell is "distorting what happened there" during the Clinton trial. He argued that denying witnesses and documents is a "cover-up." Nadler chairs the House Judiciary Committee.
