Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar responded to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh's criticism that he was receiving mixed messages on the national level regarding the importance of human life versus the imperative of getting the economy up and running.
Azar said: "The President is focused on public health, but the economy is also part of public health.”
“Economic dislocation has significant impacts on public health and those are the difficult calls the President has to make based upon science and evidence," he added.
