The New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals players knelt before the national anthem.
Major League Baseball’s Opening Day was delayed by nearly four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first major league game was played this year on Thursday night. In solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, a Players’ Alliance video narrated by Morgan Freeman played on the video screen at Nationals Park as a black cloth lined the grass.
Black Lives Matter T-shirts were worn during batting practice and the entire Yankees and Nationals rosters knelt for one minute before rising for the national anthem.
