Two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies are in critical condition after being ambushed Saturday night in their patrol vehicle outside the Metro Blue Line station in Compton.
Surveillance video from the scene shows an unidentified male opening fire on the passenger side of the patrol car, shooting both the male and female deputies.
During a press conference Saturday evening, Sheriff Villanueva expressed frustration with the current anti-police climate.
"Two deputies were ambushed in a cowardly fashion. It pisses me off and it dismays me," Villanueva said.
The suspect is still at large and is described as a Black man in his late 20's, wearing dark clothing.
Law enforcement officials announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
