A three-year-old girl's quick thinking helped save her father's life after he suffered a stroke. When Trevor McCabe collapsed on the floor his young daughter Molly didn't hesitate to call for help. She grabbed his iPhone, unlocked it, and then used FaceTime to call her mother, Devon.
Devon missed the first call because she was working at the neurointensive care unit of Winchester Medical Center. According to the Winchester Star, Molly called her mother back 15 minutes later and this time Devon answered. She knew something was wrong when she saw her panicked daughter in their home.
“She was sobbing, crying, [saying], ‘Look at daddy, look at daddy.’”
Molly turned the phone on her father who was convulsing on the floor. Devon immediately called her neighbor before rushing back to her home.
The neighbor called 911 and Trevor was rushed to the hospital. After doctors stabilized him he was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital for emergency brain surgery. Doctors are "really optimistic" that he will make a full recovery, but the process will be long and there are no guarantees.
Devon was grateful that Molly knew how to use FaceTime, and believes the young girl learned by watching her parents use the app.
“We FaceTime with her grandparents every other day, but I’m the one doing it. The only thing I can think is that maybe she has seen me do it so many times that she remembered what to do. Five days later, it’s still stunning to me that she was able to put it all together. There is no doubt that she saved her father’s life. She was working really hard to get a hold [of] me.”
