Cody Wilson, 3D Printing Advocate Arrested in Taiwan, Authorities Say

Cody Wilson, the man who sued the federal government after he published the blueprints for 3D-printed guns on his website has been arrested in Taiwan after being charged in Texas with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl there, authorities in Taiwan said Friday.

Police caught up with Wilson in the Wanhua district of Taipei, and took him to the National Immigration Agency there, officials said.

Wilson failed to board a flight back to the U.S. from Taipei on Wednesday, and the United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force was called in to help locate him. Marshals are set to return Wilson to Austin police after returning to the United States officials with the Austin Police Department said Friday.

Wilson is accused of taking a 16-year-old girl he met on the website, SugarDaddyMeet.com to a hotel in Austin last month. According to an arrest affidavit filed Wednesday, Wilson was charged with the sexual assault of a minor after Austin police received a tip on Aug. 22 from the girl who said she had sex with the 30-year-old man for $500. He faces a sentence of up to 20 years if convicted.

The self-described crpto-anarchist found became the subject of national attention earlier this year after he reached a settlement in August with the State Department that would allow Wilson to upload blueprints for 3D-printed guns online.
