Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was out having a nice dinner with his wife in D.C. on Monday night when they were approached and heckled by protesters. These activists were there to oppose the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, whom Senator Cruz supports to be nominated as the next Supreme Court justice. The protesters were chanting, "We believe survivors!"
Brett Kavanaugh is being accused of sexual assault/misconduct from his high school and college days. As of right now, two women have come forward with claims, nothing has been proven as of yet. Kavanaugh denies it.
This is the sad reality we now live in, where public officials cannot go out in public without being chastised for their view points, who they support, and their general stance. There is no respect anymore for difference of opinion. We've created a culture now were anyone that opposes our views is a dangerous threat that we feel is our responsibility to stand up to because it's life or death. That's how people react. Did Kavanaugh assault these women? Who knows...what I do think...
Bottom line is we can't just crucify someone because someone claimed it happened. To have a fair, just system and society, you need evidence. Maybe that's unfortunate for some people who don't have evidence and really did get assaulted but that's the way it is. It's not to brush off your hurt but we need to teach our men and women that if something happens to you and you are assaulted, act accordingly, get evidence and proof or else the culprit is not going to be reprimanded because if we just go by your word, the sad reality is people are going to cry wolf and manipulate the system. There will be people who come out, and lie for their personal gain if we let claims by word of mouth become the norm. You need proof, evidence, and witnesses to back up your claims. If we let these practices get away from us, our society is going to hell in a hand basket sooner rather than later.
