Columbus Day Weekend Box Office Hits!

It's Columbus Day Weekend or "Indigenous People's Day" for all the snowflakes out there. With that being said, a lot of people have a 3 day weekend. Some are going away for the weekend, some are staying home but no matter where you are, some great flicks have hit theaters across the country and are available for you to check out, starting today! Here are the top 3 movie choices for you that have people talking:

1) A Star Is Born

Starring the fabulous Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, it tells the story of a seasoned musician (who battles demons of his own) who discovers an young, talented, struggling artist and falls in love with her. He pushes her towards stardom and while she's rising, their relationship takes on problems of it's own. The movie features the astounding vocals of Lady Gaga, who plays Ally the "Star", through the film as well as introduces us to Bradley Cooper's musical abilities. This film is Cooper's directorial debut. 

The film is receiving high reviews from both audiences and critics alike and is predicted to dominate the box office. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a positive score of 93% and audiences give is a score of 83% positive.

I can't even tell you how excited I am to see this! I'm a huge Lady Gaga fan so I will be seeing this today, the day it comes out!

2) Venom

The other movie riveling "A Star Is Born" this weekend in the box office, is "Venom". It is based off of the Marvel Comics of "Venom", an alien symbiote who takes over investigative journalist Eddie Brock's body when he visits a sketchy lab he's investigating. The alien has a super violent alter ego and Brock has to learn to tame and manage the symbiote for good not evil. For those familiar with Spiderman, Venom is part of that universe. 

Critics are giving this action packed film a very low score of 28% positive on Rotten Tomatoes while audiences seem to love it, giving it a high score of 89% positive. The film is rated PG-13.

3) The Hate You Give

This politically charged movie touches on the ongoing issues between police officers and the black community that has escalated over the last couple years .There have been incidents of officers prematurely shooting blacks in various situations, when its been a car stop, etc. and this movie tells the story of a young black man who was fatally shot during a routine car stop while his young girl friend was in the car and witnessed the incident. The young woman, named Starr is faced with the pressure of standing up for what's right all while battling the emotions of what she saw with her best friend being shot at the hands of an officer. 

Critics are rating this movie very high with a positive score of 96% & audiences are rating is 60% positive on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is rated PG-13.
