Over $600,000 piece of moon rock!

An auction was held here in Boston over the weekend where a piece of moon rock was sold for over $600,000 dollars! The 12 pound meteorite that's from the moon was sold for exactly $612, 500 dollars! The seller was Aerolite Meteorites. The size of this moon rock is most pecular. CEO of Aerolite and star of the show Meteorite Men, Geoff Notkin said: “As soon as we saw this, we knew it was extraordinarily unusual. This is close to a once-in-a-lifetime find. Most lunar meteorites found are the size of a walnut or golf ball".

The lucky auction winner is from the "Tam Chuc Pagoda complex" in Vietnam. The online auction lasted from Oct. 11th through the 18th. This lunar rock was specifically found last year in a remote area of Mauritania in northwest Africa. In addition, the rock is not only unique for it's size but also it's outer crust. The crust of the rock is apparently called a partial fusion crust and it's very rare seeing as how it's basically "toasted".

With that being said, can you imagine spending that much money on a moon rock or any rock (other than a diamond...I kid...)?? I can't! However it was done and there are people out there who are excited about it.
