Actress Alyssa Milano is proposing a sex strike to protest Georgia's latest "fetal heartbeat" law and other laws being pushed like it across the country. For those who do not know, the "heartbeat bill" is a law that Georgia made to restrict and make it illegal for a women to get an abortion after 6 weeks of conception. For most women, they do not even know they have a missed period till about 6 weeks, thus giving them a very short turnaround to make a decision. Some, like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez are calling the Georgia bill the "backdoor ban" on abortion.
Other celebrities are supporting Milano and women on gaining more rights over their own bodies, like Directors and Writers' Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams. They are currently filming an HBO show in Georgia and plan to donate their fees to groups that are leading the charge on abortion laws in Georgia. They receive good tax breaks through the state when it comes to filming in the state of Georgia.
This is not the first "sex strike" in history. The idea dates back to an ancient Greek comedy, "Lysistrata" in which women of the time withheld from sex to end the Peloponnesian War and promote peace among the warring lands in 404 B.C.
Milano more so stated that: “Mark my words, one of these bills will end up going to the Supreme Court to overturn Roe. And if Roe is overturned this will directly impact the women most at risk, the women from low-income communities of color. We must take a stand against men legislating our bodies and we mustn’t take for granted the women who fought for our right to sexual liberation and bodily autonomy.”
We ask you now that Alyssa Milano is pushing for a sex strike, are you partaking?
