A new proposal has surfaced for military service men and women. It includes a new diet plan for service men and women to switch their diet to that of a Keto Diet. The Keto Diet is a low calorie diet. It's described by WebMD as follows: "Ketogenic” is a term for a low-carb diet (like the Atkins diet). The idea is for you to get more calories from protein and fat and less from carbohydrates. You cut back most on the carbs that are easy to digest, like sugar, soda, pastries, and white bread." If this proposal passes, it would mean that the military's men and women would have to forego pizza, beer, burritos, etc.
This proposal comes from the Special Operations Command. It's gaining momentum. Reports say that NAVY Seals and other underwater dive mission specialists might be the first targeted for this new diet change. According to Lisa Sanders, who works for the Special Operations Command as the Director of Science and Technology, "One of the effects of truly being in ketosis is that it changes the way your body handles oxygen deprivation, so you can actually stay underwater at depths for longer periods of time and not go into oxygen seizures.” While that may be true...don't you think that the service men and women know their bodies well and at this point are used to training and working out a certain way so they can eat whatever they want and work out accordingly? Also there is that saying that if you work like a horse, you need to eat like a horse so they need to fuel themselves in a way that their bodies can maintain energy and keep up with how much they are burning. You need to have balance and have an intake of food for how much you burn averagely without dropping too much weight.
In addition food brings a source of joy and happiness and I think our soldiers or service members are entitled to treat themselves every once in a while. They have a tough job and see some crazy stuff so if they want a little slice of heaven every once in a while, who are we to deny them? Sure, let's not eat pizza everyday and let's not get lazy and not workout but let's not deny them a beer or slice of pizza after a long week. Just my thoughts. What's yours?
