Macy's has pulled these dinner plates from their stores after numerous complaints about the products promoting eating disorders. The dinner plates are from the company "Pourtions" and each plate contains a phrase or saying. In other words, they are labeled dinner plates that suggest how much amount of food you should put on each sized plate. Some are having a real problem with these plates claiming they are fat shaming and hits a little too close to home for some and would prefer their plates not to give suggestions on how much they should eat. The specific dinner plate people are taking aim at are three different portion sizes on the specific plate that says: "Mom Jeans" for the largest amount you should have on your plate, "Favorite Jeans" for the medium regular size portion, and "Skinny Jeans" for the small portion.
"Pourtions" says that these plates are meant to be a humorous & healthy way to watch what you eat. If you visit their website HERE they say describe their plates as follows: "Research shows that people unintentionally consume more calories when faced with larger portions. So, to keep you from overindulging, our tableware collection provides helpful —and hilarious—visual cues; simple guide rails. It’ll spice up your dinner table, and your conversation. We'll save a seat at the table for you :)"
Macy's has issued an apology directly to the tweeter user that started all this outrage, Alie Ward, and they are indeed pulling the plates from not just one or two stores but ALL of their stores...
Do you think this was a smart decision by Macy's to drop these plates or are they just caving to the opinion of this one liberal's viewpoint who decided to go on a Twitter rant? Are the plates fat shaming or promoting eating disorders? I personally don't think so...I think if you're offended by the plates 1) You're already insecure about your body and looking for any reason to gain attention and reassurance about something you're already sensitive about. 2) You're a liberal activist looking for a reason to fight. 3) You don't have a sense of humor.
Just another example of how sarcasm and comedy is dying...sad.
