Todd Chrisley & Wife Turn Themselves In On Federal Tax Evasion Charges

Todd and Julie Chrisley have turned themselves in for tax evasion and other financial crimes.

On Wednesday (August 14), the Chrisley Knows Best stars reported to the FBI after they were handed a 12-count indictment the day prior. The married couple is accused of participating in tax evasion, wire fraud and conspiracy bank fraud. According to WSBTV, prosecutors also claim they used their "production company to hide their reality TV income from the IRS" and Todd "directed his employee to falsify income and asset documents, pointing toward text message communication."

Todd addressed the charges in a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday (August 13). "I’ve never talked about this publicly before, but there’s been a cloud hanging over Julie and me and our entire family for the past seven years. It all started back in 2012 when we discovered that a trusted employee of ours had been stealing from us big time," he wrote. "As a result, it looks like later this week Julie and I are going to be named in a federal indictment charging us with tax evasion and probably a bunch of other financial crimes as well."

"We know we’ve done nothing wrong," Todd added. "I’m telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of. Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it."

Shortly after news of Todd and Julie's indictment, E! News obtained documents showing that the couple's 23-year-old son Chase Chrisley is accused of owing more than $16,000 in back taxes.

According to the outlet, the IRS filed a federal tax lien against Chase over an unpaid balance of $16,886.64 for the 2014 tax period. Additionally, Chase's home state of Georgia brought a $2,025.78 tax lien against Chase that same year. The amount was paid back in full and the lien released in 2018. The documents state that he has until 2026 to pay back the federal tax lien.
