BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — New Hampshire residents are being cautioned over the possibility of there being poor air quality through the weekend.
State environmental officials made the announcement on Wednesday, advising that children, older adults and people with health problems take precautions, especially in the southwest parts of the state. That's where they're expecting air pollution to reach unhealthy levels through Saturday.
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services is calling it "Air Quality Action Days," advising that people limit prolonged exposure and exertion, "especially outdoors."
The particle pollution is believed to be coming from heating devices like boilers and wood burning stoves. Local officials say the worst cases of pollution are found in valleys, so they are asking locals in low-lying regions to consider seeking out alternative heating sources.
According to health officials, signs of particle pollution exposure may include shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chest pains, or palpitations.
Air quality across New Hampshire is expected to improve by Sunday when winds are predicted to increase.
