Everyone's new favorite celebrity that some are calling to be People Magazine's next "Sexiest Man Alive", Dr. Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told a Wall Street Journal Podcast earlier in the week that he believes Americans should avoid shaking hands ever again, in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Dr. Fauci is one of the top leaders on the Coronavirus Task Force at the White House, responsible for helping to tackle this pandemic. Dr. Fauci has been made a "hero" of sorts in the last couple weeks and certainly quite the celebrity. Donuts and bobble heads have been created of the doctor and his bobble head as of late is the new best selling bobble head with more than 20,000 sold! Needless to say, the country loves Dr. Fauci so will this latest advice from him really sink in moving forward?
Dr. Fauci: "When you gradually come back, you don’t jump into it with both feet. You say, what are the things you could still do and still approach normal? One of them is absolute compulsive hand-washing. The other is you don’t ever shake anybody’s hands. I don’t think we should ever shake hands ever again, to be honest with you,” he added later. “Not only would it be good to prevent Coronavirus disease; it probably would decrease instances of influenza dramatically in this country.”
In addition to speaking with "The Journal Podcast", Dr. Fauci was making the rounds and also spoke to another podcast from the Sinclair Broadcast Group where he doubled down on the idea of being against hand shake moving forward.
Dr. Fauci: “As a society, just forget about shaking hands. We don’t need to shake hands. We’ve got to break that custom. Because as a matter of fact, that is really one of the major ways that you can transmit a respiratory illness.”
As we move forward in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, will people take Dr. Fauci's advice and stop hand shaking?
