Adele Condemns Racism, Police Brutality In Response To George Floyd's Death

Adele is the latest celebrity to speak out in the wake of George Floyd’s fatal arrest.

The "Hello” singer-songwriter delivered a powerful message on Instagram on Monday (June 1), joining the bevy of celebrities standing in soliarity with the Black community following Floyd’s tragic death.

“George Floyd’s murder has sent shockwaves around the world, there are countless others that haven’t,” Adele wrote along with an image of Floyd. “Protests and marches are happening all over the globe simultaneously and only gaining momentum. So be righteously angered but be focused! Keep listening, keep asking and keep learning! It’s important we don’t get disheartened, hijacked or manipulated right now.”

“This is about systematic racism, this is about police violence and it’s about inequality,” she continued. “And this isn’t only about America! Racism is alive and well everywhere. I wholeheartedly stand in solidarity with the fight for freedom, liberation and justice ♥️ #blacklivesmatter #georgefloyd #saytheirnames.”

Adele isn’t the only celebrity to condemn systemic racism and racial injustice plaguing the world amid the national and civil unrest sparked by Floyd’s murder — Beyonce (here), Taylor Swift (here), Lady Gaga (here) and Rihanna (here) have also reacted to the devastating killing as well.

Additionally, other celebrities have donated funds toward causes supporting those participating in the movement. The Weeknd, who contributed a massive $500,000 to Black Live Matters causes such as National Bail Out to support civilians arrested at protests for Floyd. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds also vowed $200,000 to the NAACP, whereas Harry Styles, Steve CarellJanelle Monae, and Kehlani have donated money to help post protesters’ bail.
