Is the Post Office doing Trump's bidding?

There is a lot of attention being put on the Post Office as there are accusations circulating out there that the post office led by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is doing President Trump's bidding. The claim is that the President wants the postal service to appear unreliable, slow, and unable to handle mail in voting this November. Furthermore, there is speculation that mail in voting would increase voter fraud. Bottom line, there is a wide spread theory that the slower mail service or changes to operations at the post office are linked to President Trump fearing he will lose the election due to the idea that the Dems will try to steal it by mail in voter fraud, and as a way to combat that, he encouraged the Postmaster General DeJoy (who is indeed a Trump supporter and donor) to do his bidding.

House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi has called back the House so they can address this "crisis" with the postal service. Pelosi put out a letter urging the House to come back to vote on Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Maloney's "Delivering for America Act". This act would prohibit the Postal Service from implementing any changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020. This act is in direct opposition to what Postmaster General Louis DeJoy implemented this year with making operational changes in an effort to save money as the post office has been losing money for quite some time now. In 2019 alone the post office had a deficit of $8.8 billion. Despite this, the Democrats think DeJoy is up to something nefarious...

In July, about a little over a month ago, the Post Office put out a memo on some of the changes that the post office will be making. These are some of the changes laid out that made the Democrats nervous:

  • All operations must meet our 24-hour clock commitment
  • All trips will depart on time (Network, Plant and Delivery); late trips are no longer authorized or accepted V Extra trips are no longer authorized or accepted
  • There must be proper annotation in the scanner, if a Contractor Failure occurs
  • All PVS/HCR drivers must be notified that trips depart on time
  • Function 4 must start on time and end on time and we must make scheduled DUT
  • Carriers must begin on time, leave for the street on time, and return on time
  • Carriers must make the final dispatch of value; no additional transportation will be authorized to dispatch mail to the Plant after the intended dispatch
  • The right mail must go on the right truck - every time
  • ALL EMPLOYEES have an essential role with trips departing on time.

Additionally, reports say that the Post Office will be removing 671 high volume mailing processing machines.

These changes made the Democrats so nervous that the Post Office is intentionally trying to slow down the mail service and affect the election this November, that House Speaker Pelosi put out this letter to her members:

With all of this laid out, simple question: do you believe the Post Office is up to something? Do you think they are trying to mess with the November elections by making procedural changes?

President Trump was asked directly by a reporter if he ever encouraged the Postmaster General to slow down the mail. This was his response and more of this thoughts on the Postal Service:

Update: The Postmaster General Louis DeJoy will appear in front of the House next Monday:
