You can get "in the zone" but don't you dare get out of your zone!

Next month, weddings are set to resume in the state of New York. However, the state has some new wedding guidelines set in place during the new pandemic-era. These are the new guidelines:

  • 150 guests allowed.
  • Every guest MUST provide a negative COVID test upon arrival.
  • A band or DJ has to play 12 feet away from guests or behind a barrier.
  • Guests must keep their masks on at all times unless they are eating or drinking.
  • Guests CANNOT eat or drink “if members of different parties/households/families are within six feet."
  • Dancing is allowed BUT only while wearing a mask and in zones on the dance floor.

Zones you say? Yes, zones. In other words you can bust a move but don't you dare move out of your zone! This is the breakdown of the dance zones:

  • Each zone must be ideally 36 square feet and at least 6 feet away from other dance zones.
  • Each zone is only allowed to dance with immediate family from their designated table (the state would also like you to only stay in close proximity with your immediate family throughout the whole event).
  • Guests must wear a mask at all times in the dance zones.
  • Guests are NOT allowed to dance to or dance in other zones other than their assigned zone.

I know what every wedding should play as the first song to invite people on the dance floor... Mr Roboto because that's a song fitting for all the robots in the room. Man...that's rough. I don't envy couples getting married during a pandemic. I thank God everyday I got married back in 2019. Planning a wedding is stressful enough but during a pandemic?! I get the state is trying to keep everyone "safe" but man, don't you think with the vaccinations underway we'd be able to at least not have "zones"? I get the masks, I get the immediate families at the table while eating but zones? That's a bit much to me but maybe I'm in the minority on this one? Do you think the dance zones are appropriate?
