Tesla is recalling over 46,000 Cybertrucks due to a potential safety issue with an exterior panel, known as the cant rail, which can detach and increase the risk of a crash. The recall affects Cybertrucks manufactured from November 2023 to February 2025. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) noted that the adhesive used to secure the cant rail may fail, causing it to separate from the vehicle, although no crashes or injuries have been reported yet.
Tesla has stated that it will replace the cant rail free of charge, with owner notification letters expected to be sent on May 19. Owners can take their vehicles to Tesla's service department for replacement. This recall is part of a series of recalls that Tesla has issued over the past year. In February, the company recalled over 376,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles due to steering issues.
The recall comes amid Tesla's ongoing challenges, including a 40% drop in stock value this year and criticism of CEO Elon Musk's involvement in the Trump administration. The company is also facing increased competition in the electric vehicle market and dealing with trade uncertainties due to new tariffs.
