FOXBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new movie company is set to take over the movie theater at Patriot Place in Foxboro, replacing former Showcase Cinema.

Phoenix Theaters, a Michigan-based company, said they want to bring an “elevated modern moviegoing experience” to residents and cinephiles across Massachusetts this summer.

Planned upgrades to the theater will include 4K laser digital projection, Dolby ATMOS immersive sound systems, an expanded snack menu, and heated recliner seats.

“It’s really the best way to watch a movie,” Jordan Hohman, senior vice president of project development with Phoenix Theaters, told WBZ NewsRadio.

The construction at the 75,347-square-foot building, currently underway, will also make way for a new Encore Lounge offering handcrafted cocktails.

“People have to feel the need to drive past multiple other movie theaters to come here because we have something special,” Hohman said. “That’s what we’re creating here.”

Phoenix Theaters owner Corey Jacobson said that their vision is to make going to the movies into a memorable occasion.

“Every choice we have made at Patriot Place is centered around creating a traditional movie-going experience that feels elevated, comfortable, and worth the time our guests choose to spend with us,” he said in a press release.

Brian Early, general manager of the independently-owned theater in Foxboro, resonated with Phoenix Theater’s vision and said it was time for the change, adding that this multi-million-dollar renovation will also “eliminate all pre-show commercial advertising” to enhance customer experience.

Showcase Cinema closed earlier this year after nearly 18 years at Patriot Place.

“This is an opportunity to deliver what we want to deliver to the community, the greater region and the Boston area,” Early said.

Patriot Place is the company’s second location in Massachusetts, with the first being the Beacon Cinema in Pittsfield.
