Brookline To Consider Easing Outdoor Mask Restrictions At Public Meeting

BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Last week, Governor Charlie Baker eased mask restrictions outdoors statewide, but the town of Brookline said not so fast.

On Wednesday, Brookline will consider revisiting their decision to uphold its outdoor mask mandate during an emergency meeting.

Town Officials decided not to lift its order, despite the governor's decision. “Out of an abundance of caution and in our residents’ best interests, the Town of Brookline will not follow suit with the state’s decision to lift the outdoor mask mandate today,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Swannie Jett, last week.

The state's new guidance went into effect on Friday and under these guidelines, masks are only required outside in public when social distancing isn't possible, and other times based on "sector-specific guidance."

The town said, in a statement, the guidelines will remain in place until it is reviewed at the next Advisory Council on Public Health meeting.

That meeting is virtual and is scheduled for Wednesday night at 5:30 PM. Residents can click the Zoom link to join the meeting.
