CLAREMONT, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after a nearly nine-hour armed standoff with police in Claremont, New Hampshire.
New Hampshire State Police had told area residents to shelter in place while they tried to negotiate with the man, who was barricaded in his home near Hanover and Centennial Streets.
Authorities asked the public to avoid the areas of Hanover, Barnes, and North Streets Thursday morning.
Claremont Police also asked the public to stay out of the area.
"We have an active situation in the area of Hanover St and Centennial St.," the department posted on their Facebook page. "Please help us by staying away from the area until we clear. We will keep the public updated through this event."
Local media reported that police said shots were fired. A State Police helicopter was over the scene, and officers were attempting to communicate with the man using a loudspeaker.
The man was taken to custody shortly after 2 p.m., and the shelter in place order was lifted, the New Hampshire Department of Public Safety told WBZ NewsRadio.
No injuries were reported.
