SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are searching for two men suspected of stealing credit card information at Market Basket stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Reading police said a representative of Market Basket Security and Loss Prevention contacted them on Oct. 30 because a skimming device was found on a credit card machine days earlier on Oct. 26.
A review of surveillance video showed one suspect distracted a clerk while the other suspect placed the skimming device on the credit card machine. A review of data by the store's IT department indicated that the device was located and removed before any sensitive data could be stolen, police said.
According to a Market Basket representative, similar devices were found at Market Baskets in Haverhill (Lowell Avenue), Somerville (Somerville Avenue), Concord, New Hampshire (Storrs Street), and Nashua, New Hampshire (Amherst Street). The representative said they were not aware of any customer information being compromised at this time.
"It’s amazing how it’s so crowded and they can just put it on there so quickly, even though it’s a crowded store," one Somerville Market Basket customer told WBZ NewsRadio. "They really need to do something about it."
Concord, New Hampshire police released photos of the two suspects. One of the suspects is described as a white or Hispanic male, wearing a black hat, face mask, black jacket, white shirt, black jeans and white shoes. The second suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male wearing a black hat, face mask, black jacket, black shirt, blue jeans and white and black sneakers.

Police said skimming devices were also found at multiple Walmart stores in New England.
