BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gen Z is clocking out before they clock in for the day to become one with nature, according to a new trend.
A movement is growing among 20-year-olds who tap out of work some days in order to get outside — "green days" as they call them. They hit the beach, go for a walk, or read a book on a blanket in the park in the name of mental health.
Posts all over social media show 20-something-year-olds playing hooky to spend time outside, which researchers say can be good for the body and mind, relieve stress and anxiety, and boost overall mood. Some of their professional predecessors say they understand the sentiment.

"Sure, of course, if you're out in nature, walking around can't hurt," one local said.
Citing the overall health impacts, Gen Z is embracing what they call midweek mindfulness, especially as they face the realities of life as an adult and everything that comes with it, including the rising cost of living, tariffs, wars, and unaffordable housing.
"You know, there's something really peaceful and grounding about nature; better than sitting around on the computer all day, but eventually they're going to have to figure out they got to pay bills. You know, it's just no way around that one," another local said.
